A court has revealed video footage showing the moments leading to the fatal stabbing of 15-year-old Elianne Andam by 18-year-old Hassan Sentamu in Croydon.
The footage presented in court captures the confrontation between Sentamu and Andam, which escalated over a disagreement regarding a teddy bear. Sentamu reportedly attacked Elianne in a fit of anger, leading to her tragic death. Evidence suggests that the incident stemmed from a perceived slight rather than a simple dispute over items.
Prosecutor Alex Chalk KC described how Sentamu, armed with a kitchen knife, engaged in a confrontation with Elianne after she attempted to reclaim a plastic bag containing her friend's belongings. This act of solidarity ultimately led to the fatal encounter, where Sentamu chased and repeatedly stabbed Elianne.
Sentamu, who was 17 at the time of the incident, has admitted to manslaughter but denies murder, attributing his actions to a "loss of control" linked to his autism diagnosis. The prosecution, while acknowledging the complexities of his condition, emphasized that it should not serve as a justification for his violent behavior.
As the trial progresses at the Old Bailey, the court is tasked with examining the circumstances surrounding the stabbing, including the emotional state of both parties involved. The case continues to draw attention as it highlights the severe consequences of impulsive actions driven by anger.
